Quick Hair Care Tips

  • If you have oily hair squirt water at the roots. Water adds lift to the hair roots. You can sprinkle some baby powder to the roots of the hair as well. For dry coarse hair condition the ends of your hair well every time you wash them.

  • If you want to tie your hair up in a bun, keep the bun loose. Finger comb your hair into a low disheveled bun.

  • For sexy wavy hair use a sea salt spray. Mix sea salts in water and fill a spray bottle. Squirt sea salt on damp hair, scrunch your hair and let it air dry. As most of us have hair that has a natural wave and the sea salts will bring it out.

  • While blow-drying your hair finger comb your hair and separate the tangles with your fingers. Dry your hair in this manner till your hair is almost dry and then use a brush.

  • Bangs are the in thing. Layering hair with bangs is the perfect hairstyle. Keep the bangs thick and heavy or choose side-swept bangs. Side-swept bangs paired with long layers look beautiful.

  • Coloring your hair is another hair treatment option. It is a nice change from the way you normally look. But choose a hair color that will suit your skin color. Ask a professional to help you choose the right color for your skin tone.

  • Cut your hair in layers, this will make you look a lot younger.

  • While curling your hair before using Velcro rollers use curling irons. Squirt your dry hair with styling spray and then use a medium curling iron to curl 2-inch sections of hair before rolling hair in Velcro rollers.

  • Color your hair regularly. Color your hair every 28 days by doing this you may actually prevent your hair from getting damaged.

  • For shiny hair add a few drops of shine serum to water and squirt it on to your hair.

@STEPS
  1. Cut the lemon into slices, or pour about a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of lemon juice into the cup.
  2. Rub the lemon/lemon juice onto your hair.
  3. If you still feel there is no effect, try rub it into your hair, so more area is covered.
  4. Head out into the sun.
  5. Stay in the sun for about two hours. It helps to play a game (such as a sport) or lay out to tan in this time.
  6. Rinse out the juice, and completely follow this routine for about a week. You should notice a difference.
  7. Or you can use Chamomile tea instead of lemon juice. Then follow the same steps as with the juice.

@TIPS

  • Collect the juice in a jar first, it's easier than squeezing the lemon into your hair.
  • Mixing the lemon juice with conditioner (or leave-in conditioner) makes it easier to apply, and leaves your hair soft when you rinse it out.
  • Put on sunscreen when you go outside.
  • Make the chamomile tea very strong.

@WARNING

  • Dont do this unless you really want to because IT WILL split your hair and it wont look so nice after. It WILL NOT look the same again.

  • The lemon juice will dry out your hair, so be sure to wash out your hair with conditioner when finished.
  • DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE BLACK HAIR!

How to Straighten Your Hair Without Chemicals

Straightening your hair without using damaging chemicals and other unnatural products is easy! Just read ahead to find out how.

@STEPS

  1. Wash and dry your hair as normal. This is an optional tip but is popular in naturally straightening hair: before shampooing, spray your hair with about 1/3rd cup of milk. This keeps your hair straight and silky.
  2. Allow your hair to dry naturally, or pat with towel. Your hair should be almost dry when you begin.
  3. Part hair into three, one section on either side and leaving the bottom section loose. Gather up the two sides and clip them on top of your head.
  4. Follow the brush (with your dryer) to and fro in even motions down your hair as you straighten each section.
  5. Part the sections again, pulling down a new section to be straightened and proceed as above, making sure you keep the dryer moving.
  6. Work your way up the layers until all the sections are dried and straightened. If you like, you can use a flat iron afterwards.
  7. To curl the ends for a polished look, take your brush and pull the ends taut. Finish your styling with a blast of cool air.

  • @TIPS
  • For guys who want to straighten their hair, it's better you use one of those clamp brushes that fold up. It has a bristle side and then a comb on the other. Clamp your hair about two cm from your scalp and then blow dry. It works best when you put in straightening balm before straightening.

    @WARNINGS
  • Straightening your hair every day might make your hair dry in about 2 weeks from now. It will probably be very dry unless you use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, or leave-in conditioner. Aussie leave-in conditioner works well. A few other options are Pantene Pro-V damage defender spray, quidad climate control gel, or quidad botanical boost. Quidad is very expensive though. Though having your hair look dry is not what you want!

How to Style Your Hair

Sick and tired of your boring hairstyle? Ready for a change? Follow these steps for gorgeous hair. Make sure you read all of this to get the most out of it.

@ STEPS

  1. Ask all of the people you know that have great hair where they get it styled. Don't make it obvious you want to go there. In that case, they won't want to tell you.

  2. Flick through a cool magazine for inspiration on a great hairstyle. Cut out at least 2 pictures of the hairstyle you want and take it into your fabulous hairdresser! Go for a sweeping side fringe and textured layers. Make sure it's a big enough change for people to notice, otherwise it's a waste of money. Brave enough to dye your hair? Go for a color close to but not the same as your natural color. Go for streaks in the same color, but in different shades. For example, blonde streaks in light or medium brown hair.

  3. Now, the tools! You have a great cut now, but your hair is frizzy or just plain flat. To fix all these problems, you need a multi-styling hair straightener (yes, straightener). The GHD straightener is the BOMB. It will straighten your hair in a few minutes! It will also help smooth down frizzies. Here's the right way to straighten: Wash your hair with your shampoo and conditioner, then add in your hair drying product. Then, when your hair is completely dry, straighten it and add your serum. If your hair is dead straight, you can use it to create texture and LIGHT waves. A good hair dryer is also needed. The ones with diffusers are the best, because they will leave your locks sleek and smooth.

  4. One thing you always need is products. Firstly, a good serum. This baby will eliminate frizzies, smooth down hair, make your hair glossy, sleek and shiny - yes, all in one product! Also, a shampoo and conditioner for your specific hair type is a must-have. For example, if you have dry hair, get a shampoo and conditioner formed for dry hair. The same goes for frizzy, thin, damaged, or colored hair. Also, a product that you can put in your hair when you have just washed it is good. For example, a product that you can put in your hair before you blow dry and straighten it (L'OREAL has great ones), or a product that you can put in your hair before blow drying it and texturizing it. If your hair has a tendency to frizz up or rebel against straightening throughout the day, a heated styling brush is a great idea. Just brush your hair with it on your breaks for sleek hair all day, every day! If not, a boar-haired brush is great for detangling without the pain. Also a wide-toothed comb is a must-have, as is a parting comb. The parting comb is good because you can change the part in your hair to make sure your new style stays new. For this reason, it is a good idea to get a flexible style cut in.

  5. Style your hair naturally. It's easiest if you don't try and change your natural hair. If you have curly hair, style it, curly hair can be beautiful. just do what you feel is great to your appearance whether it be spicing it up with curls or straighting with clips! have Fun with it.

@TIPS

  • Don't get layers if you have curly or wavy hair, unless you are prepared to invest in a damn good hair straightener! Otherwise, your hair will just become even curlier. As long as you straighten it, layers will look great on thick hair, and they will also thin it out.

  • Don't get a short crop if you have curly or wavy hair, unless you want to look like you have an afro. Seriously.

  • Curls are absolutely gorgeous! They can be soft, or tight, as long as they aren't frizzy. Work with your natural hair.

  • You can get a perm, even if you have wavy or curly hair. It helps to enhance your natural curls/waves.

  • Dye your hair any colour you wish, as long as you're ready for it and you're sure it won't make you look dead, and make sure to get a colour that works with your already natural hair color, also a good Low light and High light can work wonders =].(unless that's the look you are going for!)

  • Enjoy your new look, and don't give away your fab hair secrets unless you want someone else to steal the spotlight away from you!

  • Be realistic when taking a photo to your hairstylist. Keep in mind that most photos in magazines are of professionally styled hair. Get an estimate from your stylist how complicated that style will be to achieve on a daily basis.

@ Warnings

  • Straightening and blow-drying every day can cause hair to even fall out with regular use. It's best to style your hair with gels or sprays, but if you absolutely hate the shape of your hair, get it permanently straightened. Be careful though, many people have had their hair fall out or break off! Make sure you know your stylist and make sure that they work with quick hands.

  • Never straighten hair with a hair straightener when it is wet (unless it is a special hair straightener) You don't want your hair to fry and break off.

  • Avoid dyeing or over-accessorizing your hair

How to Gel Your Hair

Gel can be especially useful for wavy and curly hair, to hold those waves and curls throughout the day. Here's the quick and easy way to apply gel to your hair

@STEPS

  1. Wash hair thoroughly.

  2. Rinse hair, just as thoroughly.

  3. Towel dry hair.

  4. Dispense a small dab of hair gel onto 4 fingers.

  5. Rub fingers together, spreading the gel evenly.

  6. Starting at the front of the head, quickly, and evenly apply the gel to your hair, working it in deeply using your fingers. Make sure you apply the gel through to the root.

  7. Brush or shape hair to desired style.

@TIPS

  • After you put the gel on your fingers wave them in the air for a few seconds, then apply. This helps to get the right consistency before application.

  • Use only the needed gel strength for your hair. Too much hold gives you "helmet head," and that just doesn't look good on anyone but DEVO. Same thing goes for amount of hair gel. Just a small amount is usually sufficient.

  • Remember that certain styles, if kept for a long time, will use a large amount of gel. Opt for high-maintenance hairstyles only for special occasions. If you can, try using stronger gel around the tips rather than normal strength throughout your head.

  • Gel takes time to freeze over. Be patient, and do not use more just because it hasn't frozen.

  • Your hair may have a crunchy texture if you use a lot of gel. Flip your hair forward and use your fingers to gently scrunch your hair. This should leave you with soft, yet defined hair.

@Warnings

  • Wash your hair out ASAP if your gel causes discoloration or itchiness of the scalp- you could be allergic to an ingredient.

  • Do not go overboard on gel. Do not spend a huge amount of money if you have short hair, but do spend a fair amount if you have a demanding style.

  • Your gel may leave a white residue behind and flake off. This is not an inherent problem with gel; it is caused by several factors. You could be using too much gel- so use less gel or upgrade to a higher strength for the same amount of hold. You could be using too high a strength of gel- so use a lower strength. You also could be using cheap gel of low quality

@Things You'll Need

  • Comb/Brush

How to Keep Your Hair Nice

If you are sick of messy or straight hair with no body, this one is for YOU!
@STEPS
  • Wash your hair every other day. Do not wash every day or you will ruin the hair's cuticles. Massage shampoo into the scalp. Do this for about 40 seconds, wash out thoroughly and then repeat once more. pour conditioner into your hand filling the palm, rub from the tips of your hair to the root covering all your hair. If you want softer silkier looking hair leave the conditioner on for 4 minutes. You can give yourself a deep conditioning treatment by sectioning the hair and covering in in conditioner. It is best to let your hair dry naturally; but if necessary use a heat protection spray which you spray on the hair while it is still wet and then blow dry, this will also protect hair from curlers/straighteners etc.
  • Comb the hair through but do not use a brush on wet hair. Then take your brush and brush a small chunk of the front of you.

  • When using hairspray make sure you wash out thoroughly as it will damage the cuticle in the hair and this is how split ends are caused.
  • Take care not to make too tight. When putting hair up make sure that the hair band is not too tight as this will split the hair.
  • Make sure that you have a trim every 6-8 weeks, as this will keep hair strong and help it to grow.

@TIPS

  • Always use heat protection spray when using heat appliances on your hair. Also deep condition your hair at least once a week.
  • For hair that is naturally wavy or curly after straightening a section spray hairspray but not to close to the head and not to much this will help to hold your hair in place.

@WARNINGS

  • Do not straighten your hair everyday as you will permanently damage your hair. Once you have applied hairspray to the hair do not straighten in the same place as you will immediately cause split ends.
  • Make sure you are allowed to use these things in your hair. It can damage your hair. Check with doctor if you can use this type of spray or shampoo.
  • Too much conditioner will make your hair greasy and flat.
